How Do We Sleep While Our Beds Are Burning

I fell asleep sometime Saturday morning. When I woke up, it was an hour ago, Monday night.

I really need to buy an alarm clock.

I think I slept through my hangover.

My sheets are covered in blood because I had another nosebleed during the night. They are becoming more and more frequent. I also accidentally left my ringer off, so there were what seemed like fifty messages from Mitchell on my machine. It appeared that Elkie had also told him about what had happened to Shannon. I have a feeling Mitchell was a little drunk before he started calling.

The last message on my machine was from Elkie. She said, "Hi," and that I should call her back.

For once, there are no prostitutes outside my window. Still, my neighbor's huge dogs are barking very, very loudly.

I need to move.

The spider that has been spinning a web in the corner of my bedroom caught a moth. When I passed out Saturday morning, the moth was in the web; when I awoke today, its carcass was on the floor.

Before we said goodbye, Elkie kissed me on the forehead, and then we hugged.

I can still smell her perfume.
